Today, on May the 16th, we will start the exhibition organized by the Gernika Peace Museum and the research group MHLI (Historical Memory in Iberian Literatures). The sound installation Aire Errea by artist Xabier Erkizia (Lesaka, 1975) will be on display at the Gernika Peace Museum from today until July the 7th.

This is a reflection on the concept of the noise of war in relation to our vast and complex imaginary of war in Western societies, which is constructed not only through images, but also through sound. Few approaches to the sounds of war are known, even though it is evident that war permeates all the senses, and especially the auditory. What does a war sound like? That is the question the artist has asked himself. Based on the description provided by a witness who survived the bombing of Gernika, Erkizia has made his own the notion of burnt air, in reference to the fire that followed the bombing.
