The experience at the Herri Arte School in Errenteria

From June the 3rd to 21st at the Elai Alai hall in Gernika

In this exhibition we would like to share a didactic experience carried out at the Herri Arte School in Errenteria. The education subgroup of the research group MHLI has developed a didactic proposal to work on the political-armed conflicts that have deeply influenced the Basque Country throughout the 20th and 21st centuries with young people (specifically with those in the second and third cycle of Primary Education and above). This proposal is based on an interdisciplinary method that considers the arts as a medium and resource. In order to elaborate the idea of the method and the design of the proposal, we have collaborated with experts in the historical, artistic and educational fields, so the result has been the fruit of a plural and enriching process.

The project funded by the University of the Basque Country/Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea and the Erein publishing house gave the initial impetus to the project for the design of didactic material and the method has been piloted in the 2023-2024 academic year at the Herri Arte School of Errenteria. We have prepared an exhibition based on this experience on the occasion of the International Congress Gernika(k) / Guernica(s): Resemanticisations of  historical trauma.
