This week, Ainhoa Urzelai and Nerea Eizagirre, members of MHLI, attended the Basque Culture International Summer School, where they delivered a lecture titled “Basque Culture, Youth Literature and Comic Books” at the Miramar Palace in Donostia.

From September 2 to 13, the Basque Culture International Summer School will take place, organized by the rectorate of Basque Language, Culture, and Internationalization of UPV/EHU and the Summer Courses Foundation (UIK). Twenty-one students from Hiroshima, Japan, will arrive in Euskal Herria to participate in sessions covering various topics related to Basque culture. Ainhoa Urzelai and Nerea Eizagirre provided a talk entitled “Basque Culture, Youth Literature and Comic Books.” They analyzed crucial elements of Basque culture and the collective imagination of the Basques while discussing the recovery of historical memory, all through the lens of Basque children’s and youth literature. Participants have made connections between Japan and the Basque Country, referencing shared spaces of symbols and memory between the two nations.
